Dear All:

We shall return to the The Firing Range Text in tomorrow's workshop. To get ready for that, do take a look at the page for Topic 4, where you will find the extra slides I showed on Monday in <LNG302 Topic 04-Supplementary.pptx>. The plan is simple; bring in ideas about interpersonal communication from before Goffman (speech act theory) and after Goffman (politeness theory) to see how both may add to our analysis of the meeting. You will find a new document for annotation on the page containing extra analytical categories arising from speech act theory and politeness theory. If it helps, listen to the recording of the four-minute segment of the meeting once again.
