LIBRARY NOTICE
Notice on New Adjustments of Book Loan Quota
To enhance the library service, promote reading and better support our patrons’ learning and research, and based on the discussion and approval by the Library Affairs Committee Meeting held on 10th May, 2023, we are pleased to announce that book loan quota will be increased with immediate effect. The details are as follows:
Library Notice of Loan Period Adjustment During the Summer Holiday
For your convenience and to avoid any overdue fines before and during the summer holiday (if you were out of university and could not return the books), the Library will extend the loan period for books. Please kindly pay attention to the loan period adjustment shown as below:
Any checked-out library items with due date between 20 May, 2023 and 17 September, 2023 will be extended to 18 September, 2023. Please make sure your borrowings are returned before the due date (18 September, 2023) to avoid overdue fines.
If you are not able to return to university on time to return the books, Library suggests you to renew borrowed books online before the due date via http://opac.xjtlu.edu.cn through XJTLU VPN. If you have any problems with renewing items online, please send an Email to library-service@xjtlu.edu.cn for help.
LIBRARY HIGHLIGHTS
Library’s Researcher Academy Symposium Successfully Held on 10 May 2023
The Researcher Academy Symposium, with the theme of Empowered Paths to Open Access Publishing, was successfully held on 10 May 2023.
There were 3 inspirational sessions respectively, sharing insights and knowledge from XJTLU professionals and author services specialists from press. Dr. Michael Day (Assistant Professor, Academy of Future Education, XJTLU), Ms. Jun Wang (Team Leader, Library, XJTLU), and Ms. Kane Kang (Author Services Specialist, Cambridge University Press) gathered to discuss Open Access publishing and research support from different perspectives. More than 150 researchers in and outside XJTLU registered for the event and there were 80 members of the audience per session onsite or online.
Researcher Academy @ XJTLU Library is a scholarly communication theme project by XJTLU Library. It aims to guide researchers, especially early-career researchers through different phases of the research cycle, from research preparation to publishing and disseminating research, introducing various research and scholarly communication topics. The next scholarly communication event is planned to be held in October 2023.
Cambridge University Press and Assessment Chinese Research Seminar 2023 successfully held
On May 11, 2023, the 3rd Cambridge University Press and Assessment Chinese Research Seminar, co-organized by XJTLU Library and Cambridge University Press, was successfully held at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU). Representatives from Xiamen University, Wuhan University, Southern University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Nanjing University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, and Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University were gathered to attend the meeting. Guest representatives from the BIBSAM Consortium, National University of Singapore, and Gold Leaf were also invited to participate in the conference.
Dr. Xin Bi, the University Librarian of XJTLU, and Ms. Liping Yang, the Deputy University Librarian of XJTLU delivered welcome speeches, expressing their heartfelt thanks and welcome to all parties present. During the meeting, the experts made wonderful presentations from the perspectives of open access in university practice, journal publishing platform construction, and global research big data analysis.
The conference focused on sharing global open-access strategies, assessments, and practical experiences, and discussed how to develop partnerships in the academic, publishing, and library communities. The seminar is of great significance in strengthening academic information exchange among universities, building an open-access alliance community, and promoting the quality of academic research.
XJTLU ESI Research Performance Report (May 2023 Issue) Released
The Library has released the May 2023 Issue of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University Essential Science Indicators (ESI) Research Performance Report, which provides the latest information about XJTLU’s ESI rankings and performances, ESI Top 1% research fields, and ESI Top Papers.
According to the latest ESI update on May 2023, XJTLU ranks 3,205th among the 8,409 listed institutions worldwide, with the overall ranking moving up to 272 places.
In the current update, XJTLU has entered the ESI Top 1% in the field of Environment/Ecology for the first time. This is the 4th field for XJTLU to enter the global Top 1%, following Engineering, Computer Science, and Social Science, General.
XJTLU has 3,476 papers in all ESI fields, which were cited 43,263 times. Among them, 69 papers were selected as ESI Top Papers (Highly Cited Papers and Hot Papers).

Library User Survey 2023, User Satisfaction Feedback
To assess library service quality, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University Library conducted the Library User Survey 2023 in March. Core questions of the survey covered 3 service dimensions of service quality Library as Place (physical environment) Library Resource (access to and provision of print and electronic resources) and Library Academic Support Service (helpfulness and usefulness of library services) In total, 1,683 valid responses were received and 93.11% of the respondents rated library performance "Very Good" or "Good". 16/21 categories of library services get good compliments with a performance score of 4.0+. 1,255 suggestions for library future developments were proposed.
