When we put some practice on class, it is possible that we should put some time to let them do it by themselves. Does this time include the 45mins of our presentation?

If we overrun the standard 45mins, will we lose marks?

The short answer to both the questions is: Yes. But let me explain.

Timing is an issue that every presenter must consider. A 10 - 15 minutes' academic presentation usually tolerates ±1 minute. If it is too short, usually it means the presenter does not prepare sufficient material to present. If it is too long, usually it indicates that the presenter is not familiar with the topic. As it is not recommended to occupy the time of subsequent presenters, "longer "is even worse than "shorter".

You might lose marks because of the poor preparation, not simply because of the timing. For example, it is insufficient to talk for only 5 minutes, but it is even worse to talk for 5 minutes and fill the rest 10 minutes with meaningless stuff. On the other hand, if you present a lot of interesting material that the audience is attracted to and nobody notices you have talked for 20 minutes, I don't think you will lose marks for the extra 5 minutes.

Note that each team member is marked separately. Use the 15 minutes for each wisely.
