Title: Hided organic phosphorus in sediment
Abstract: Phosphorus (P) is often the limiting factor of primary production in various ecosystems. This is attributed by the nature of poor solubility of inorganic P in soil conditions. However, less is known for the role of organic P on global biogeochemistry as it represents a larger environmental reservoir over the inorganic P. With the methodology developments on Liquid Chromatography-Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry, we have observed a significant amount of some dissolved P that may represent the organic speciation but in unclear biogeochemical roles. Here, we would use various methods to extract and concentrate unknown organic P species from soil matrix for speciation identification and quantification by the Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry method. Findings on the biogeochemical roles of organic P would be of great environmental significance.
