Title: Effect of plant species and wind conditions on PM1 dry deposition velocity in wind tunnel

Abstract: Particulate matter (PM) pollution is a major air pollutant that can significantly increase the incidence and mortality of various diseases. Plants can reduce atmospheric particulate matter through various methods such as retaining particles on the surface of branches and leaves, reducing wind speed to promote PM deposition and discourage resuspension. Exploring the ability of urban plants to control particulate air pollution and the influence of plant species and plant structure on this ability is of great significance to ensuring public health and safety. The PM1 dry deposition experiments were conducted in a mini wind tunnel using various species with different leaf morphologies, canopy structures, and branch flexibility under wind speeds from 1 to 4 m/s. With increasing wind speed, dry deposition velocity first increases until a threshold velocity when the leaves become more parallel with wind direction and then decreases due to less interception. The change of leaf contact angle should be given more attention in examining the PM dry deposition for stronger winds.
