Abstract:
Climate change is drastically reshaping species distributions and populations, with cascading ecological impacts already disrupting human societies—and intensifying. Community responses are often not gradual, their nonlinear nature challenge traditional methods to predict the vulnerability and sensitivity of biodiversity to climate change. Here, I present empirical evidence that species interactions are key to understanding ecological patterns, predicting future trends, and assessing uncertainties. During this quest, we uncover new interaction pathways and evolutionary constraints, offering insights for future empirical and predictive research on how biodiversity will react and adapt to climate changes.

气候变化显著改变生物分布格局与种群数量,其引发的生态功能变迁已影响人类社会运转,且正持续加剧。生物群落对环境变化的响应往往不是渐变式的。互作网络中“牵一发而动全身”的现象频发,其非线性响应特征使传统的单一物种预测模型面临重大挑战。我将在此报告中通过实证研究证据,阐述物种互作是理解生态格局、预测未来变化趋势和评估不确定性的关键。这一探索过程同时揭示了新的相互作用途径和演化适应的限制,为研究生物多样性如何应对气候变化提供了新的见解
Biography:
Jinlin Chen just started as an assistant professor at Nanjing University. She obtained her PhD at the University of Oxford, followed by postdoc work in the UK and Australia. Focusing primarily on the Drosophila-parasitoid food web system, she studies evo-ecological dynamics under environmental stress using a combination of field work, controlled experiment, molecular techniques, and population models. Her work has been published in Ecological Monographs, Global Change Biology, Journal of Animal Ecology, and Ecology Letters, and she serves as a junior editor for Biodiversity Science.
嘉宾介绍:
陈金琳,南京大学生命科学学院生态系助理教授、研究员。她博士毕业于牛津大学,后在英国、澳大利亚进行博士后研究工作,2024年加入南京大学。课题组以果蝇-寄生蜂群落为主要研究对象,结合野外调查、控制实验、分子生物学技术和种群动态模型,研究生物群落在环境胁迫下的生态-演化动态。研究成果发表在 Ecological Monographs、Global Change Biology、Journal of Animal Ecology 和 Ecology Letters 等国际期刊上,任《生物多样性》杂志青年编委。
