Title: Groundwater - surface water interfaces as hotspots for multi-contaminant interaction and turnover
Date: 2026-03-03
Time: 14:00-15:00
Room: ES354
Host: Dr. Liwen Wu
Biography:
Dr Stefan Krause is a Professor of Ecohydrology and Biogeochemistry at the University of Birmingham, UK. He is an Invited Visiting Research Professor at the University of Lyon, France, where he leads the AquaPlast and PlasticUnderground research networks and Honorary Visiting Professor at Vietnam National University in Hanoi. His research combines innovation in sensor network technologies for real-time in-situ monitoring of the evolution of complex pollution mixtures and the development of adaptive modelling and tracer approaches for investigating the fate, transport and impact of legacy and emerging pollutants at aquatic-terrestrial interfaces. He initiated and co-leads the UNESCO UniTwin Network on “Ecohydrological Interfaces Under Change” and is Vice-President of the International Commission of Water Quality at the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS). As Head of the “Water and Health” IAHS working group and as Royal Society Industry Fellow, his research influences industry and regulatory practice as well as (inter)national policy, including on innovative One Health approaches for reducing micro- and nanoplastic pollution and their environmental, animal, and human health impacts. He is Director of the Birmingham Water Centre, integrating water centred research across all Universities Colleges and creating interdisciplinary research and training opportunities for the next generation of international water researchers.
Look forward to seeing you!
