Title: " Spatial Ecology for Biodiversity Conservation : From Snow Leopards to Agriculture"
Abstract:
In this staff seminar talk, Dr. Juan Li will delve into the applications of spatial ecology for biodiversity conservation, focusing on snow leopard habitats and the challenges posed by agricultural expansion. The presentation will explore the impact of climate change on snow leopard refugia in High Asia, the identification of global snow leopard Landscape Conservation Units (LCUs), and the potential threats from poaching, anthropogenic development, and climate change. Furthermore, we will discuss the increasing conflicts between industrial and subsistence agriculture and protected areas, examining the characteristics of conflicts leading to protected area downgrading, downsizing, and degazettement (PADDD) events. By understanding the nature of these conflicts and the underlying drivers, we aim to identify ways to balance agricultural demands with the conservation of natural habitats and the protection of biodiversity.
We will keep onsite seminar and provide online choice via Tencent (ID: 979-2894-8794).
