Title: Constant Stress Layer Characteristics in Sedimentological Saturated Air Flows
Abstract:
After the first PhD seminar talk outlined the impact of thermal stratification on the flow field within the constant stress layer this upcoming talk will be focussed on the effect of sedimentological stratification on the airflow in the constant stress layer. In this presentation measurements conducted at the Trent Environmental Wind Tunnel will be presented. These experiments were conducted in clear and sedimentological saturated air flows at velocities below and above the fluid threshold for sediment entrainment in thermally neutral conditions. To acquire horizontal and vertical velocities of sand grains and air within the saturated airflow a Laser Doppler Anemometer was employed to differentiate between fog seeding particles and saltating sand grains. The acquired results will be presented and discussed in direct comparison with a previously collected and presented data set. This presentation will mark the second step of the PhD studies about the combined impact of thermal and sedimentological stratification on the flow field.
