Title: Exploration of the Interactions between Se Species and Cd in Plants: A Systematic Review
Abstract:
In Chinese soils, the co-occurrence of selenium (Se) and cadmium (Cd) has prompted research into their interaction, particularly Se's role in detoxifying Cd.
This study investigates on how Se influences Cd toxicity in plants. Results indicate that Se species, including Se4+, Se6+, nano Se, and SeMet, can indirectly reduce Cd toxicity by enhancing antioxidative systems and regulating genes related to Cd uptake. Direct interactions between Se and Cd lead to the formation of CdSe in plant roots, altering Cd's distribution and influencing its uptake and translocation. Selenium forms like SeMet, SeCys, and selenol (-SeH) play significant roles in these processes, helping to mitigate Cd's toxicity.
In conclusion, Se can facilitate Cd detoxification in plants, though its effectiveness depends on the specific Se species. The study highlights the need for further research into the relationship between organic Se, Cd, and chelates in plants.
