Title: Occurrence of plasticizer contamination of wildlife on the Tibetan Plateau and the subsequent ecological impact
Abstract:
Plasticizers are organic components added during the production of plastics, and some of them have ecotoxicity. They can interfere with the endocrine system of human and animals, therefore cause health hazards. Plasticizers could bioaccumulate in living organisms and biomagnified via food chains. Previous studies have revealed the ubiquitous occurrence of microplastic pieces in human and animal feces. In this study, we would like to conduct pilot study on the occurrence of plasticizers in the fecal samples of wild animals collected from the Tibetan Plateau, in order to identity plastic pollution on remote areas, as well as evaluation about the potential health impact on wildlife on Tibetan Plateau. The ecosystem in Tibetan Plateau is vulnerable and results from this study will provide recommendations for the policy of plastic waste management in the future.
