Title: Depicting species interaction network of mammal community on the Tibetan Plateau: from a spatial and temporal perspective

Abstract:

Interactions among species within complex networks are fundamental to ecosystem dynamics. So far only a minority of conservation-oriented studies have explicitly considered species interaction, but instead, favoured single threatened species and their habitats for simply. Failure to consider the species interaction network within which a threatened species is embedded may lead to counterproductive management measures. In this study, we used long-term camera trap surveys and applied three different methods of quantifying spatial and temporal interactions among species to understand the species interaction network structure and to identify whether the highly connected species are threatened species. Besides, we also aim to understand how the anthropogenic impact may affect the structure of interaction networks and how species interaction structure may vary under different seasons. Interestingly, our primary results indicate that there are predominantly positive spatial and temporal interactions between species. The species interaction structure varies under different seasons. Our study contributes to the understanding of species interaction network of mammal community on the Tibetan Plateau. These results could provide guidance for future experimental research and to improve conservation planning practice.
