CPS Registration

There has been an important change for new members of staff who would like to complete the Certificate in Professional Studies. The CPS programme now has two registration points throughout the academic year. One is in March and one  will be in September. The registration process can be found on e-bridge and the Handbook and other important information can be found on the CPS ICE site. We look forward to working with new colleagues this academic year.

Help us with the design of our new programme!

AEC have just applied for approval of a new programme, The Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. We would like members of staff who are Alumni of the Certificate in Professional Studies programme to work with us on the development and design of this new programme. If you would like to take part in shaping this new staff development opportunity please contact Dawn Johnson.

CPS workshops Semester 1, 2016

Semester has started off well this year, with many new staff enrolling in the Programme, which is exciting! We had an Induction for new CPS participants in February, which was preceded by a session on Small Group Teaching.

This was followed by a new session called Flipping the Classroom and Peer Reviewer Training, Theory and Practice in Teaching and Learning, and  Learning Styles and Teaching Strategies, as we prepare for the 2017 Learning and Teaching Colloquium. Further CPS workshops are planned almost weekly, so please continue to have a look on the CPS ICE site for the most up to date workshop schedule.

The UK Professional Standards Framework for Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education (UKPSF) is a nationally and internationally recognised framework for benchmarking success within HE teaching and learning support. The UKPSF can be applied to personal development programmes at individual or institutional level to improve the quality of learning and teaching and recognise excellence. At the end of this month a member of the Higher Education Academy will be visiting XJTLU in order to help the Academic Enhancement Centre develop a framework for the professional standards .This framework will provide support to academic staff who wish to make individual, direct applications for Associate fellow, Fellow and Senior Fellowship status.

January assessment period

January was a busy month for the CPS team, as many CPS participants chose to take the opportunity to submit CPS written assessments as well as do their presentation and professional dialogues. We were very please to see some truly excellent presentations and we had some very interesting and in-depth professional dialogues about evaluation practice.

Thank you for your positive contributions!

Peer review of teaching

The Educational Developers of AEC continue to be busy peer reviewing teaching across the University and creating discussions with colleagues in order to improve teaching practice and the enhancement of student learning. The requests continue to come from a wide range of academic departments in addition to CPS participants who value the opportunity of being observed from someone outside of their particular discipline.

"WOW!!! Thank you SO MUCH for your super thorough feedback. I really appreciate your insights! I highlighted the parts that I can improve on. They are really helpful and well-taken! I’m going to teach the same lesson again tomorrow to a different cohort, and I can put your suggestions into practice right away. How great is that!"
