Print Book Acquisition
By 15 May 2021, faculty-librarian cooperative book acquisition project for AY2020-21 has been closed. However, you may continue to submit book requests to the Library for print book collection development in AY2021-22.
The Library Pre-approval Plans for each department are provided as below, from where you could select desired titles.
The Order Feedback (April-May 2021) regarding the books ordered by the Library is updated as below. During the pandemic prevention and control period, the arrival time of imported books might be affected due to delays in international parcel delivery. For any urgent need, please contact your subject librarians.

Reference Textbook Order Feedback
- The Library received 1,048 reference textbook requests for AY20/21-S2 through e-Bridge.
- 833 titles have existed in the Library collection, one copy of which will be shelved in Course Reserved Area (3F, the Library). You can easily search the reference textbooks of your modules in "Curriculum" of OPAC.
- 9 titles have been proceeded for ordering.
- 2 titles, which failed to be ordered due to temporarily out of stock, will be reordered by the Library.
During the regular epidemic prevention and control period, the arrival time of imported books might be affected due to delays in international parcel delivery.

Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE)(Updated)
Upgraded from previous JoVE, with 3 new Science Education collections available.
- Structural Engineering: fundamental concepts and protocols for material characterisation, with specific emphasis on common construction materials such as steel, wood, and concrete.
- Materials Engineering: cutting-edge methods for analysis and characterization of materials, and a range of advanced materials and processes for new technologies and applications.
- Biochemistry: commonly used purification methods, such as affinity chromatography, as well as analytical methods, like MALDI-TOF.

Preservation of FYPs and Dissertation
The Library annually implements the preservation of students’ Final Year Projects (FYPs), dissertations and theses in XJTLU. It aims to increase the visibility and discoverability of student works, showcasing the high calibre of research underway at XJTLU.
This year, the FYPs and dissertations are expected to be submitted to library by 30 June 2021. Please kindly note that all FYP/Dissertation module leaders and who are responsible for collecting FYPs/dissertations shall follow the guidance here and reminder emails sent by etd@xjtlu.edu.cn to complete the submission of FYPs and dissertation information collection form and full-text.

Library Highlights
Library Event: Living Library Held Successfully
On 25 May 2021, the 29th Living Library was held successfully at 123W in the Central Building.
In the event, we invited five LIVING BOOKS, namely Dr. Chongjie XU, Dr. Youzhou ZHOU, Mengyao ZHENG, Qinlin WANG and Qinyu NI. They shared their life experiences and ideas with us face to face, encouraging us to know ourselves and pursue self-worth.
Approximately 100 students took part in the event. Inspired by the guest speakers' insights and experiences, they took the opportunity to reflect on their current life and look forward to the future. Xu, member of XJTLU Reader Association, said to us, “Living Library is awesome! It is the most meaningful event I have participated in ever since I came to XJTLU.”
‘Gear up for Scholarly Communication' Library Mini-Symposium Successfully Held on 26 May 2021
'Gear up for Scholarly Communication' mini-symposium, organised by Research Academy @ XJTLU Library was held on 26 May 2021.
On the occasion, Dr. Xuan Wei (Wiley research experience specialist), Dr. Yi Zou (XJTLU productive author, Department of Health & Environmental Sciences) and Dr. Bin Zou (Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Computer-Assisted Language Learning and Teaching, Department of Applied Linguistics) gathered to discuss different topics of scholarly communication, including research paper writing, paper submission, research collaboration, peer reviewing, journal editing, etc. Over 100 researchers in and around XJTLU joined the mini-symposium onsite or online.

Library Student Committee Meeting 2021 Successfully Held
On the afternoon of 26 May, librarians from various departments and student representatives at all levels met together at Room 153 Central Building for the Library Student Committee meeting 2021. The forum promotes student voice in the library by providing a communication platform for them to discuss and exchange ideas with the staff on library related topics.
Go Reading: Counselling For Toads
On 21 May 2021, the third meeting of this semester for Go Reading was held at SB252. The members of Reader Association and Psychological Association gathered together to read and discuss Counselling For Toads: A Psychological Adventure by Robert deBoard, a delightful book which offers a gentle introduction to transactional analysis. Professional counsellor Xiaoliang WU was invited as the key speaker.
Embedded class for IBSS
Invited by staff from IBSS, librarians from XJTLU Library delivered a workshops for students on 6 May 2021. 49 students actively joined the workshops regarding referencing in academic works, and expressed their satisfaction with the invaluable experiences gained out of it.
The Library Word and PS Training Courses were Successfully Completed
From April to May 2021, the XJTLU Library has successfully completed the delivery of Word and PS training courses to the students in room 455, Library.
Li Lu explained in detail the common functions of editing and typesetting papers with word. Sunruo Wu explained in detail the basic operation of using PS for beautifying images and making posters.
The feedback received from the attended students are very encouraging as they expressed their satisfactions on the invaluable experiences gained from it. Meanwhile some suggestions to further improve the training sessions in future were welcomed by the tutors.
Wanted Book List
Based on the book recommendations from academic departments, the Library produces a ‘wanted book list’ for items which failed to be purchased. Faculty could find your own ways to purchase the listed books for teaching and research needs. It shall follow the procedure in Library Policy on Staff Self-Purchase Reimbursement when purchasing a book from the wanted book list.
