The Launching Ceremony of International Volunteer Service in Suzhou Dushu Lake Hospital was successfully held on 16th July. It aims to vigorously promote the volunteer spirit of "dedication, love, mutual assistance and progress", provide language translation and medical escort services for foreigners, and effectively solve the language barrier and practical difficulties of foreigners seeking medical treatment in China. Representatives of XJTLU foreign staff members, volunteers, and staff of the hospital have participated in this launching ceremony.
Dr. Jianquan Hou, President of the hospital, delivered a speech and announced the official launch of "International Volunteer Service of Suzhou Dushu Lake Hospital". He also awarded the flag to the International Volunteer Service Team and issued the certificates of International Service Consultant to all foreign participants in this event.
Shirley Smyth, staff of XJTLU and representative of the foreign guests, praised and thanked Suzhou Dushu Lake Hospital for its efforts to improve the medical experience of foreign friends. It is expected that in the process of voluntary service in the future, the hospital will provide the accurate help and services to more foreign friends. On behalf of the volunteers, Menglin Li said that they would remember the spirit of voluntary service, stick to their posts and provide good services, so as to spread the hospital culture and promote the international development of the hospital.
After the ceremony, Dr. Qiang Guo, VP of the hospital, led the members of the international volunteer service team to introduce the development process of the hospital, the concept of "internationalization" and many measures to serve foreigners to foreign participants, which helped them better known about the history and culture of the hospital. In the cordial and friendly conversation, they enhanced mutual understanding and built up a better relationship.
Staff Training - Project Management, which has been organised on 2nd July, is a course that focuses on the key elements and architecture of project management. It is the process work of the organization to realize the project goal management. Its significance lies in the effective planning, organization and control of limited resources to achieve the goal of project management, as well as ensure the realization of project goals in a systematic management method. For individuals, the sense of project management can help to plan and executive the work in a more efficient way.
Based on case analysis and simulation, it provides participants with a logical project management process in the workplace. Before the conduction of a project, staff should identify who their stakeholders are and how to manage the stakeholders in a proper way. During the kick-off meeting, we should confirm the stakeholders’ role and responsibilities, try to involve the high-level management team members and clarify where to get the appropriate resource. According to the 4P Model (Position, Plan, Problem and People), to make the project deliverable, we need to build up alignments and get commitment from all the stakeholders, driving their engagement.
Through case study and brainstorming, participants learned some practical tools of project management like Gant Chart and Triangle Model of Scope (Qualify, Time and Cost). When facing problems in a project, we should take the steps like Problem – Cause – Options – Solution – Implement – Result. However, many of us usually go from the problem to the solution directly, ignoring some important information about the reason and the options we need to consider. This course helps us identify and lessen the riskiness of project management.
