Staff Training - Summer English Programme AY20/21 has been conducted every Monday to Thursday from 9th August to 19th August. This is a dedicated course designed with various topics such as Digital Disruption, Brainstorming Ideas for Transformation, Proposal Writing, Negotiations (Debates), Email Writing, Minute Notes and Presentations. In each class, participants discussed a topic related to the course and shared insights based on their own experiences. The instructor always made some suggestions for their conversations.
The course had a strong focus on case studies. Using email writing as an example, participants wrote emails with relevant topics in advance, and the instructor made corresponding revisions in class, as well as shared several professional samples with them. In addition, participants also shared their work experience as learning cases during the group discussion sessions to find better methods and solutions in the workplace.
Please feel free to find the learning materials in BOX Folder and share the information with those who might be interested.
Staff Training - Setting Goals and Reviewing Results has been conducted on 11th August 2021, as part of the Training Calendar AY2020-2021. This course showed the positive effect of shifting the traditional role of planner and evaluator from the leader, to a shared responsibility between leader and staff. This shift would build staff ownership, and allow the leader to focus on coaching and developing throughout the performance cycle.
During this training session, line managers who take the responsibility for staff performance management experienced how to use effective (SMART) goals to help them and their direct reports track progress and fairly evaluate outcomes. A well-written performance plan was also a powerful tool provided for managers to use when having a discussion with the direct reports on the topics of performance improvement and staff development. They have also learned how to achieve alignments with their direct reports on goal setting and performance review period.
For further information on staff training sessions, please stay tuned to the University Notice on Staff Training Calendar AY2021-2022 at the beginning of the new academic year.
