415.jpg From 18th March and onwards, ParkwayHealth Primary Care physicians and Pediatricians, including psychological counseling service, are on call every day for free online medical advisory.

New Staff Induction Speech and Slides & Human Resources Related Guidance

New Staff Induction is generally conducted at the beginning of each semester to assist new staff to settle into the workplace. It covers General Session for all new staff and Academic Session for new academic staff specific in learning and teaching. HIGHLIGHTS IN MARCH 2022

 

University Staff Learning Day – Research-led Learning (RLL) Day was conducted from 9am to 5pm, on Wednesday, 30th March. This Learning Day was co-organized by Staff Training and Learning, Human Resources Office and Educational Development Unit (EDU), Academy of Future Education. It was consisting of seven sessions with different topics of “Research-Led Learning and Teaching” shared by experts within the University. Staff members could join any sessions they were interested based on the topics and brief introductions.

9AM-10AM, Dr. Xiaojun Zhang, Executive Dean of Academy of Future Education, provided an Overview of Research-Led Learning According to the University Learning and Teaching Strategy基于西浦学习和教学战略的研究导向型学习概述. Dr. Zhang showed the participants a full picture of the University’s research-led learning from the strategic perspective and inspired our colleagues with a bright growth path.

10AM-11AM, Dr. Jie Zhang, Associate Professor from Department of Accounting of International Business School Suzhou, shared her understanding of Research-led Teaching Practice: Collaborative Learning and Assessment Design研导教学实践:协作学习及考核设计. During this session, she used a research-led module as background, explained the detailed design of assessment and the corresponding learning activities, which would help to achieve the pedagogical benefits of collaborative learning.

11AM-12PM, Ms. Yu Wang, Educational Developer from Educational Development of Academy of Future Education, introduced her experience on Research-led Teaching and Curriculum Design研究导向型教学和课程设计. She presented the conceptualization of different aspects of research-led teaching in higher education, helping the participants build a foundational understanding of curriculum design. Besides, she also shared the opinions on how research-led teaching could be implemented in teaching and learning practice particularly from a curriculum design perspective.

1PM-2PM, Dr. Bing Chen, Associate Professor from Department of Urban Planning and Design of Design School, demonstrated his interpretation of Research-led Education 研究导向型育人. He posed some questions to the participants that provoked thoughtful reflection, such as WHY do we need to be educated? WHAT should we learn & teach? HOW to learn & teach? In the last part of the sharing, he presented the key of the Role CHANGE: from a teacher to an educator.

 

 

2PM-3PM, Dr. Hao Yu, Associate Dean of Research (Mathematics and Physics) from School of Science, offered his expertise on Solving Real-World Problems & Research-Led Learning and Teaching 研究导向型学习与教学 - 解决现实问题. He shared several practices on how to help students become self-motivated learners, demonstrating that Real-World Problems Solving is a bridge connecting theory and practice, and a key to learners-centered education and life-long learning.

3PM-4PM, Dr. Xi Liu, Assistant Professor from Department of China Studies of School of Humanities and Social Sciences, presented her sharing on Enhancing Research-Led Teaching & Learning through Interdisciplinary Research 通过跨学科研究加强研究导向型教学. Through the detailed introduction to a TDF project "Enhancing Research-Led Teaching & Learning for Postgraduate Research Students through Interdisciplinary Research" conducted by her team, Dr. Liu showed that Interdisciplinary Research could be a good choice for broadening students’ research horizon, developing their research capabilities and well preparing them for future research projects.

4PM-5PM, Dr. Jinglu Song, Assistant Professor from Department of Urban Planning and Design of Design School, brought a new vision on Research-led teaching practices of Individual Sustainable Development based on Personal Ecological Footprint基于个人生态碳足迹的环境可持续发展课程教学实践. From a perspective of environmental sustainability based on the personal ecological footprint, she shared the practices on helping students get better understanding of how sustainability thinking can be applied in practice and change their daily life.

 

XJTLU’s positioning as a “research-led” university shows that the University has been dedicated to identifying multiple channels and methods, encourage staff and students to carry out in-depth exploration of research-led learning, teaching and working. The video recordings and slides of this Learning Day will be shared via University Communications (UC) later, please kindly pay attention to the notice and let us know if you have any queries.

insurance.pngOnline Insurance Seminar was organized on 2nd March, with three sessions regarding the health services for XJTLU staff members, AXA Insurance Services, PICC Insurance Services and Parkway Mental Health Counseling Services. Experts from the insurance companies provided a general introduction of their services, as well as various solutions to some specific occasions. For those who are interested in the health services, please kindly refer to the AXA insurance brochure, PICC insurance brochure, Seminar video recordings, sharing slides and Q&A.  

 

 

 Learning Chinese.pngStaff Chinese Course was started from 8th March and will be lasting ten weeks. Working with School of Languages, this programme is provided to expat staff who are interested in Chinese language and culture learning. To help participants establish a systematic learning path, this course will be delivered according to the structure of the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), an international standardised test of Chinese language proficiency, assesses non-native Chinese speakers’ abilities in using the Chinese language in their daily, academic and professional lives.
