HIGHLIGHTS IN OCTOBER 2021

Staff Training – Data Analysis via Microsoft Excel (Advanced Level) has been conducted on 29th October 2021, as part of the Training Calendar AY2021-2022. For staff members, data analysis is required in a variety of working scenarios. It can not only improve their working efficiency but also help to build professional databases for different functions of the University.
This course targeting staff members who are willing to obtain the practical skills of data analysis and improve their data reporting with Microsoft's core technologies has attracted over 40 participants from 23 departments. During this training session, participants learned the skills of data analysis via Microsoft Excel - Power Query, the best tool for controlling and converting data on the Excel platform. Besides, they also gained how to handle data of different structures in combination with cases in the workplace. Presenting charts and graphs is another key element of the report. This training covered the creation of charts in general and how to use a combination of control tools and charts to generate dynamic presentations.

Staff Training - Staff Chinese Programme
General Chinese Course has started on 12th October 2021. This programme is inclusively designed for XJTLU foreign staff who are interested in Chinese language learning. There are two different levels, Beginner and Elementary, of the course provided to staff each week. Participants of different levels would be able to learn with different topics, such as Send greetings, Introduce themselves to Chinese, Make appointments, Go shopping, Transportation for Beginner Level, Talk about their daily schedules, Book a taxi on apps and talk to taxi drivers, Make reservations on the phone, Online shopping and delivery, Ask for help for the Elementary Level.
Fun Chinese Workshop was conducted on 26th October, serving as a flexible learning course of this programme. Participants created handmade greeting cards by drawing peonies in a Chinese traditional painting style. The peony represents good luck and auspicious. In this way, it helped participants gain some basic understanding of Chinese painting, grasp some words of different colours and obtain the basic painting skills by using a Chinese writing brush.

Staff Training - Staff Engagement Activities
To enrich the professional knowledge and diverse cultural heritage of XJTLU staff, a variety of engagement activities are well designed and provided in each semester, including Mandarin calligraphy, classical dance, oil painting and Chinese painting. In collaboration with the Arts Centre, these courses were launched on 18 October as scheduled. During these weekly activities, staff could learn more about art and culture alongside their daily work and acquire some artistic skills such as dance, painting and calligraphy through practice.
