Centre for Knowledge and Information, shorted as CKI, is the combination of Library, Management Information Technology and System Office (MITS), Museum, University Marketing and Communications (UMC), and Educational Technology (CET).

FM.CKI is a suite of tuning workshops and internal communication events that focus on cross-function communication, potential collaboration, professional opinion and creative idea.

FM.CKI & XIPU Insights Joint Workshop -From Research to More has been successfully organised by CKI and the XIPU Institution.

With Professor Zhengxu Wang from FuDan University presenting on the topic "Think Tank Work in a University Context", Wei Zhang presenting on the topic "China Development Institute Case: Capacity Building for Think Tanks" and Round table discussion on the topic of "Think Tanks, Research and Popular Science", the event vividly displayed the engagement of research and popular sciences.

MITS ATTENDS THE 5TH JOINT UNIVERSITY IT ALLIANCE SYMPOSIUM AND CONFERENCE

On 12-13 November, the Fifth Sino-Foreign Cooperative University IT Alliance Symposium and Conference was held at Wenzhou-Kean University. MITS attended the conference on behalf of XJTLU, and gathered together with representatives of IT departments from nine domestic Sino-foreign cooperative universities to discuss the opportunities and challenges of university IT environments, IT work during the epidemic and mixed teaching in the post-epidemic era. Experience sharing and discussions were conducted in the aspects of the model, Smart Campus Construction.

The IT Alliance of Sino-foreign cooperative universities aims to explore the development methods of information technology in Sino-foreign cooperative universities, innovate the application of information technology, and jointly face the opportunities and challenges in the development of campus informatisation.

IT VOLUNTEER TEAM TO SUPPORT IMPROVEMENT OF TEACHING ENVIRONMENT

MITS provided more than 50 volunteer internships to the university. The interns were trained by MITS engineers and perform work to ensure the normal operation of class equipment. The volunteer team provide IT support and service in the early hours each working day.

This volunteer internship activity has been carried out by the Computer Society for nearly 4 years, and has attracted more than 400 students to join. MITS are very grateful to the students for their contributions. At the same time, the students are especially grateful for the internship opportunities provided by the MITS Office. In the future, we hope to better work and guide students in the IT field and provide opportunities for students to participate in the IT construction and management of the University.

CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES OF COVID-19

During the epidemic period, the architecture of the university data management platform was optimized to rapidly collect data. In accordance with the government's epidemic prevention and control requirements, XJTLU developed the XJTLU Health Passcode to monitor the entrances based on our health commitment and daily health reports. Meanwhile, to meet the needs of working remotely, XJTLU provides a complete set of telecommuting technology platforms. The localized Hyflex teaching solutions provide three technology platforms, XJTLU’s Hyflex tech can fully support many teaching scenarios.

IT SERVICE CENTRE

IT service center handled the issues for daily work. In November, IT service center deal with 1,514 tickets, 660 telephone inquiries and 814 on-site services. In addition, IT front desk undertakes the task of making cards, totally making 410 cards during the November.

XJTLU MUSEUM “ONE DAY HOST” RECRUITMENT LETTER HAS BEEN RELEASED

To provide an open and diversified platform for the exchange of ideas, XJTLU Museum launches the “One Day Host” event located in the campus cultural space– X Bar. This new event is committed to offering an opportunity for the insightful teachers and students of XJTLU to be “One Day Host” of X Bar, based on which the participants could lead online academic lectures sharing and discussion the deep thinking in various disciplines including science, technology, humanities and social sciences, arts and so on.

Those who successfully organize the event will be awarded with exquisite souvenirs and the “One Day Host” certificate.

【MUSEUM CULTURE LECTURE】JIANGNING IMPERIAL SILK MANUFACTURING MUSEUM

The Jiangning Imperial Silk Manufacturing Museum is located in Daxinggong, Xuanwu District of Nanjing, a modern museum built on the original site of the imperial Jiangning Weaving Bureau.Themed on “The Leading Museums”, the Eighth Series of XJTLU Museum Culture Lecture (Season 2) invites Mrs. Huang Chen, Executive Deputy Director of Jiangning Imperial Silk Manufacturing Museum, and museology researcher, over for the “KAI TAN LE” event. It is intended for teachers and students from all over the world at XJTLU to hear and feel the stories behind Jiangning Imperial Silk Manufacturing Museum.

In November, UMC has published nearly 30 pieces of English and Chinese news stories. Topics include XJTLU launches new Academy of Pharmacy, XJTLU Communications and Media Reception 2020, research, IIH open day, external communication and collaboration, and students and staff stories.

XJTLU IN THE MEDIA IN NOVEMBER

During the past one month, XJTLU has been mentioned in media reports from outlets including CCTV, Xinhua News Agency, China Youth Daily, Educator Magazine, China Daily, China Science Daily, China National Radio, The Paper, China News Net, Jiangsu Broadcasting Corporation, Yangtse Evening Post, Suzhou Daily, Suzhou Broadcasting System, Suzhou Traffic Radio and Sina.

Topics included XJTLU launches new Academy of Pharmacy, internationalisation, challenges and opportunities of higher education in post-COVID-19 world, higher education exploration, research, staff stories and campus life.

Researchers from XJTLU have also been sought for comments from a number of English media outlets including Associated Press, Telegraph, Sup China, That’s Magazine and Shanghai Daily.

2020 SUZHOU INTERNATIONAL DAY FESTIVAL

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University co-organized 2020 Suzhou International Day on 28 November, at Suzhou Culture and Arts Centre with Propaganda Department of the Suzhou Municipal Committee and Government Foreign Affairs Office. Over twenty students and professors from our university participated with their own country booths.

This annual municipal-level event aimed to enhance the understanding of Suzhou International Sister Cities among foreigners in Suzhou and expand the influence of Suzhou "International Circle of Friends”. It was also a great opportunity to increase XJTLU’s brand awareness to a broader audience and showcase the diversity of the university.

A NEW CHAPTER AND NEW NAME...

More than 6-years after its formation, and having previously existed as part of the Educational Development Unit (EDU), XJTLU's Educational Technologies Team recently began an exciting new chapter in its development via joining the University's Centre for Knowledge and Information.

At the same time, and in recognition of the University's long-term focus on online learning provision, we will now be operating under a new name as a dedicated, stand-alone centre - the Centre for Educational Technology (CET).

As the CET, we look forward to continuing to serve you, the XJTLU community, and further enhancing the capabilities and capacity of the University in relation to technology-enhanced learning.

LEARNING MALL ONLINE SOFT LAUNCH

30 November saw the soft launch of XJTLU’s Learning Mall Online platform – a big step towards the LMO becoming a platform which makes available learning content from XJTLU and a range of other sources to a global audience.

As part of this soft launch XJTLU students and staff now have access to a range of free and open access courses across a variety of disciplines provided by XJTLU's own schools, as well as Harvard University's LabXchange, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and several other organisations.

COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE EVENTS AT XJTLU: OPENNESS AND SHARING  

XJTLU’s Community of Practices (CoP), which are conducted by the Centre for Educational Technology have been running for over a year now, and have been successful in bringing various learning communities within XJTLU together with the intention of being a forum for openness and sharing around interest such as VR & AR and Assessment. 

The CoP is conducted throughout the course of the year with guest speakers invited from within and outside of XJTLU to share their projects, concepts, and ideas at the meetings. Therefore, if you have an interest in joining our CoP please look out for our University-wide announcements.

LIBRARY EVENT: LIVING LIBRARY SESSION I SUCCESSFULLY HELD

The first session of Living Library was successfully held online by XJTLU Library on the evening of 17 November. The theme of this session was "Dreams Become Reality – Life in Super Elite Universities". In this event, we were fortunate to have three alumni as Living Books (guest speakers). They shared their thoughts on topics including dreams, hobbies and persistence. A total of 160 people participated in the webinar.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY SEMINAR SUCCESSFULLY HELD

On 19 November, the XJTLU Intellectual Property Information Service Centre invited Mr. Yan Jiang (from Shanghai Pudong Intellectual Property Administration) to give a speech on "Game of Intellectual Property in Business Competition".

Dr. Xin Bi (Director, Centre for Knowledge and Information), colleagues from XJTLU Intellectual Property Information Service Centre and Research engagement information office, representatives from local corporations and students who are interested in intellectual property joined the seminar.

XJTLU LIBRARY SUCCESSFULLY HELD SINO-FOREIGN UNIVERSITY TEXTBOOK MANAGEMENT SEMINAR

On 27 November, the XJTLU Library Successfully held Sino-Foreign University Textbook Management Seminar.

The seminar focused on “Blended teaching and textbook practice in a post COVID-19 world, themed as Challenges, Collaboration and Connection”, major international publishing and education groups, state-owned import and export companies, as well as library and textbook management departments of Sino-Foreign universities joined the discussion.

The seminar promoted the exchange and cooperation between universities, and through dialogue promoted mutual understanding and consensus among various textbook management chain. The delegates reached a consensus on how to share information more closely and promote textbook platform among universities, and entrusted the XJTLU library to act as the main body in promoting software development for the new online platform, to better serve the construction of the textbook service and the new forms of textbook service in the future.

TSINGHUA UNIVERSITY LIBRARY COLLEAGUES VISITED THE XJTLU LIBRARY

On 19 November, a group of 6 people including Yunzhong Jiang, Tsinghua University library’s Party Committee Secretary, and Tianfang Dou, deputy director of the Tsinghua University library, visited the XJTLU library to develop communication. Dr. Xin Bi, Director of Centre for Knowledge and Information and the University Librarian, extended a warm welcome to the visiting colleagues from Tsinghua University Library.

Accompanied by Dr. Xin Bi, the library colleagues of Tsinghua University visited the XJTLU campus and library. Thereafter, the two libraries held a communication symposium attended by Yang Liping and Teng Chao, both deputy University Librarian of the XJTLU library.
