LEARNING MALL SPOTLIGHT EVENT OF ASSESSMENT

According to the data from Registry, there will be around 221 modules taking online exams this semester, and thousands of students and teachers will visit the Learning Mall Core system to have the test. In addition to the technical preparation, Educational Technologist Team in Learning Mall also started a series of instructional supports in order to ensure success in the coming exam weeks.

We created a module named “Assessment training and resources” where you can find all the information about online assessment support information. The module page is designed with the purpose of helping teachers learn how to choose and set LM activities or tools to prepare for an online exam. Different assessment types are introduced, and relating activities/examples are carefully recommended as well. If you missed our event but have interests, please feel free to visit the page.

THE LECTURE SERIES OF “GANJIANG PROJECT”

XJTLU Learning Mall has recently launched "Ganjiang Project", a series of online lectures jointly organized with Suzhou Municipal Government Cadre Education Office.

"Ganjiang Project" provides a platform for interactive teaching, thought collision and thematic discussion with innovative ideas in a variety of forms such as joint training, cross-regional training, and online training, integrating quality teaching resources from various industry sectors and keeping up with the times and local conditions.

At present, "Ganjiang Project" has been successfully held three lectures, inviting experts and scholars from a variety of fields and universities, such as Fudan University and University of Science and Technology of China, to share industry insights, cutting-edge developments, and academic knowledge.

DO SOMETHING GREAT WITH IOS

On 18 May, XJTLU Learning Mall successfully held a new guest lecture series "Do Something Great with iOS" with Apple. The lecture was delivered online and presented by Mr. Yin Xiaoteng, Chief Technology Officer from Apple RTP and Apple Certified Trainer.

In this lecture, Mr. Yin explained the Apple iOS development ecosystem, including the programming language knowledge, development kits (SDK), and techniques. He also introduced the overall production process of AR products, while using XCode, the App development tool provided by Apple, to show how to make AR animations quickly into App works, allowing learners to practically experience the development of the App and the fun of using AR in real-life scenarios.

LIBRARY’S RESEARCHER ACADEMY LEARNING DAY SUCCESSFULLY HELD ONLINE

Researcher Academy Learning Day, organised by XJTLU Library, was successfully held online on 25 May 2022. Over 150 researchers in and around XJTLU registered for the event and there were more than 80 members of the audience per session on average.

XJTLU ESI Research Performance Report (May 2022 Issue) Released

The Library has released the May 2022 Issue of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University Essential Science Indicators (ESI) Research Performance Report, which provides information about XJTLU’s ESI rankings and performances, ESI Top 1% research fields, and ESI Top Papers.

LIVING LIBRARY WEBINAR HELD SUCCESSFULLY

On 18th May, the 31st Living Library with the theme “From One to Infinity” was successfully held online. This time, XJTLU Library invited three “living books”, namely Yangyang DING, Yunfan CHEN and Wenlan XIONG, to share their personal stories with XJTLUers. Their topics are Meditations on the Epidemic, Youth Leadership in the VUCA World and Jump into the Serendipity of University Life.

The webinar lasted for one and a half hours and the participants were very enthusiastic. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically changed our lives, it gives us more time to read and think, to try something different and to discover the true self. We believe that those looking for new opportunities will find ripe opportunities in the future.

THE LIBRARY ONLINE COURSES “POPULAR STYLE POSTER PRODUCTION BY PHOTOSHOP” AND “TO BE AN EFFECTIVE AUTONOMOUS LEARNER “SUCCESSFULLY HELD

In order to better support our students’ learning and enrich their life at home under the COVID-19 Pandemic, a total of 8 sessions of online courses were held successfully by Library from 13th April to 12th May 2022. These courses focused on a poster design by Photoshop and autonomous learning, taught respectively by Mrs. Sunruo Wu and Mr. Li Lu from Library User Service Division.

Positive feedback was received from students after the courses. They learned skills and reduced learning anxiety during the special period.

AY2223 IT SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE BUDGET PLANNING UPDATE

At the beginning of May, MITS completed collecting and evaluating the IT hardware and software requirements for AY2223. According to statistics, 640 IT hardware and software requested items were collected and assessed from 18 schools and 30+ professional service departments in SIP and Taicang Campus, with 231 items more than 21-22AY. Overall, a total budget of RMB 27.08 million has been approved for AY2223 by ICTSC, with RMB 8.80 million for hardware and RMB 18.28 million for software, respectively, leading to a savings of RMB 78.88K compared with 21-22AY.

ICTSC committee will submit the approved IT hardware and software list budget to the Planning and Resources Committee for further approval. We’ll follow up on these IT hardware and software requirements to support learning, teaching, research, and office activities AY2223 after the budget release in Sept 2022. MITS thanks all colleagues involved for their support and cooperation during the budget collection and evaluation process.

IT FAQ——HOW TO USE CAMPUS WIFI

With the epidemic under control, our campus has returned to its usual vibrancy. To help our new staff better adapt to life at XJTLU, this article will talk about how to use campus WiFi.

Step 1: Connect to the XJTLU Wi-Fi network.

Step 2: Open any webpage, and the authentication page will automatically pop up.

Step 3: Log in with your username and password.

In the process of using it, we will also have a lot of common problems. It should be reminded that the total number of devices that staff can connect is 10. If there is a situation that exceeds the equipment, please refer to WiFi Clean to help you. In addition, if there are any other questions, please send an email to IT@xjtlu.edu.cn.

MITS NOTICE: OUTLOOK SUPPORT FOR WINDOWS 7 DEVICES HAS ENDED

Many applications and services have stopped working on Windows 7 since Microsoft stopped providing technical support and vulnerability fixes. According to the official documents released by Microsoft, TLS1.0/1.1 protocol is vulnerable to inherit security risks and potential attacks.

As there is no hotfix for this vulnerability, we decided to disable the TLS1.0/1.1 protocol on the server-side based on information security considerations. As a result, Windows 7 users can no longer use Microsoft Outlook normally. If you are a Windows 7 user, please backup personal data as soon as possible and contact MITS for a free upgrade to Windows 10 operating system.

DIALOGUE AMONG MUSEUMS BY LIVE STREAM ON THE PORTAL SINA.COM 

The theme of International Museum Day in 2022 is “The Power of Museums”, which aims to emphasize the huge potential and powerful ability of museums to influence the human world, and calls on all walks of life to jointly build a better future. In order to celebrate the International Museum Day, XJTLU Museum launched the XJTLU Museum Week Series to bring more excitement and happiness to our students and staff through different forms of online cultural and art activities during the period 16 May to 20 May 2022.

It should highlight the dialogue among XJTLU Museum, Museum of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Museum of Wu by live stream on the portal Sina.com on 18 May, 2022, attracting 412,000 online audience to participate in. The staff from three museums introduced their museums and collections separately. Student presenters also shared their experiences and fate with museums. This event has strengthened the communication and contact between XJTLU Museum and other museums and expanded our university’s brand influence.

CULTURE LECTURES: “GIFTS FROM THE MUSEUM” & “HUMOROUS NARRATIVES IN MUSEUMS”

On 16 May, XJTLU Museum invited a professional illustrator, runner-up in the 2020 Stratford Literary Festival Book Cover Design Competition, and guest speaker at TEDxXJTLU2020, Ms. Guo Xin, to bring you an illustration course themed "Gifts from the Museum". Ms. Guo introduced the relevant knowledge of cultural carriers, creative elements, product performance, and other related knowledge through some cultural and creative products of the museum, and showed the audience the creativity and application of illustrations in cultural and creative products.

On 17 May, XJTLU Museum invites Yier Luo, founder of the art talk show and speaker of TEDxXJTLU Conference 2021, to join XJTLUer in unleashing the power of museums! He used interesting museum collections as examples to explain how to find humor in museums and art galleries.

ONLINE "JIANGNAN STYLE" MUSIC CONCERT AND CREATIVE WORKS EXHIBITIONS

The theme of International Museum Day in 2022 is “The Power of Museums”. XJTLU Museum would like to explore the potential of the university museum to bring about positive change in the campus. Therefore, XJTLU Museum invited members of the XJTLU Art Club to hold an online "Jiangnan" concert in the XJTLU Museum Week series: Online Concert. Carried forward traditional culture, enriched campus culture, showed the charm of music to XJTLU teachers and students, let everyone feel the fusion of music and culture, and showed everyone different “ancient” music. Additionally, XJTLU Museum organized two online exhibitions on theme of “Explain the power of museums” and “Cotton Swab”. It aims to let more people feel the power of museums and express their understanding and creativity on this World Museum Day through cultural and artistic work.

WHAT DOES "OUTSTANDING YOUTH" LOOK LIKE?

On May 4th, the Youth Day, we published a creative WeChat post with interesting interactions to encourage young people to be themselves. This post was very welcomed by our followers, receiving 3,558 page views, 50 likes, and 15 zaikan.

STUDENT STORIES SERIES: THE WALKTHROUGH OF AN XJTLU STUDENT

During the recruitment season, UMC presents the Student Stories series to show XJTLU’s brand characteristics and encourage senior high students and current students. This year, we designed illustrations for each story to bring a very different reading experience.

In this story, the student shared her experiences in choosing a major, doing internships, and finding a career path.

XJTLU was mentioned in media reports from domestic outlets during the past month, including People’s Daily, China Radio International, Xinhua Daily, Yangtze Evening Post, Jiangnan Times, Modern Express Post, and Suzhou Daily.

Researchers from XJTLU have also been included in stories and sought for comment in multi-language media outlets, including Times Higher Education, EurekAlert!, Xinhua News Agency, ArchiExpo, FT Adviser, and KOMPAS.

Topics included scientific achievements, JITRI’s first anniversary, students’ stories, student recruitment, and campus life.
