HIGHLIGHTS
EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY COP ON DECEMBER
XJTLU’s first Educational Technology CoP is successfully conducted on 15th of December. Two guest speakers, Mark Tholen and Paul Tuck, were invited and shared their experiences of using Miro and H5P in their class. Members joined the discussion with high level of enthusiasm both online and offline.
Miro is a free whiteboard which allows online interactions between teachers and students. It can also be used as a virtual room for teaching and learning, communication, designing, brainstorming and exhibition activities if it is well designed.
H5P provides many different types for creating interactive content. It can be designed with nice looking and fun. The speaker said it did motivate the students on learning. Also, it is easy to be accessed to XJTLU teachers, because it has already been integrated with Learning Mall.

XJTLU DATA GOVERNANCE AND DATA STRATEGY SEMINAR
On 10th December, XJTLU Data Governance and Data Strategy Seminar, hosted by CKI and co-organised by Learning Mall, was concluded at the XJTLU International Conference Centre. This seminar invited Fuke Shen, Secretary-General of Information Technology Services from ECNU, Qi Feng, Engineer of Information Technology Services from ECNU, as well as Xiaobing Xian, Professor from Changshu Institute of Technology, to share the latest trends in data governance and data strategy and promote data-related thinking modes and capabilities.
This event attracted over 30 attendees from inside and outside the University. Learning Mall will continue to organise a series of events in line with the DCMM project to promote digital literacy and the awareness of constructing data-driven teams, so as to facilitate the digital transformation of XJTLU.
LOCAL FINANCIAL STABILITY AND RISK CONTROL WORKSHOP
On December 21, the opening ceremony of Local Financial Stability and Risk Control Workshop, hosted by Learning Mall, was held at XJTLU with more than 50 financial practitioners attending. Learning Mall has provided instructional resources for the workshop, which integrate the new and changing financial situation with practical problems faced by financial institutions.

LIBRARY AS A BRIDGE: TAILORED COMMUNICATION CAMPAIGN ARRIVED AT ENTREPRENEUR COLLEGE (TAICANG)
Aiming at strengthening the communication with academic staff and students from Entrepreneur College, XJTLU Library held ‘Library as a Bridge: Library Visit to Entrepreneur College (Taicang)’ event at SC building on 22 December. On the day, the Library met with faculty to offer an induction on library resources and services, and provided students with consultation service at Library Information Desk.
Through the event, the Library knew more about individual demands from academic staff and students, and has the faith to provide more targeted support to Entrepreneur College in the future.

TWO SESSIONS OF GO READING HELD SUCCESSFULLY
On 19th November at BS392, the second session of GO READING in this semester was held successfully. Co-organized by the Library, Reader Association and History Club, the event was to read and discuss Ray Huang's representative work 1587, A YEAR OF NO SIGNIFICANCE. Dr. Bo Wang from Chinese Cultural Teaching Center was the guest speaker, sharing her own opinion with the audience.
The third session started at 7 on 10th December at CB153. The book for reading was Blindness by Noble Prize winner Jose Saramago. Jingyi Zhong, as the main speaker, talked about her ideas about the book.
Over 120 people signed up and participated in the events. Through the interpretation and analysis of the books, they found the beauty of literature and experienced the joy of reading.
PRACTICAL SKILLS IMPROVING, LIFE-LONG DEVELOPMENT ENHANCING —LET’S CELEBRATE THE COMPLETION OF THE LIBRARY SKILLS TRAINING
In order to help teachers and students to better adapt the school life and improve the personal ability, the library held a series of training courses from November to December, with theoretical and practical learning respectively, the names are “How to be an effective leaner (6 parts)" and "let's excel together (4 parts)".
Through the successful establishment of these two course series, the students not only enriched the theoretical knowledge about human learning behavior, but also improved the application skills of Excel, achieved "internal and external training".

XJTLU APPLYING FOR THE “JIANGSU PROVINCE SMART CAMPUS MODEL CAMPUS AWARD”
January 2021, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education and the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology jointly awarded XJTLU to the title of “Jiangsu Province Smart Campus” for the year 2020.
This year we are striving for the superior “model campus” award which is one of the most significant awards within Jiangsu higher education system. This is not an easy task as the requirements and competition increased, but the Management Information and System Office (MITS) has completed XJTLU’s application for 2021, and universities and colleges are currently in competition for this award. The final result may be announced around the end of January 2022.
MITS MONTHLY INTERNAL TRAINING- UIM
On 8th Dec, MITS department held the 24th monthly internal training. The theme of the training was UIM. The training mainly reviews the historical development and current innovation of XJTLU certification platform in different stages, briefly introduces each module of UIM platform and corresponding functions, and analyzes the benefits of all aspects in the specific practice process of UIM project. Finally, Hua share the authentication and authorization process of SAML 2 and OAuth 2.0, which are the two most commonly used protocols in the unified authentication process, so that the staff can have a simple and intuitive impression of the background technology of unified authentication.
IT SERVICE CENTER
IT Service Center handled the issues for daily work. Including 3,438 tickets, 1,600 telephone inquiries and 592 on-site services. In addition, IT front desk undertakes the task of making ID cards, totally making 1300 cards during the November and December. And the student IT Service desk on the 4th floor provide 416 consulting and software installation services for students.

TEDXXJTLU ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2021
The 2021 TEDxXJTLU Annual Conference was held on December 18, 2021. The theme for this year’s conference centered around “DAO”, where 10 individuals with backgrounds in humanities, education, arts, science, and technology were invited to join as guest speakers to share their ideas and insights on stage. Our audience are not only from the internal campus and the local community, but also from the livestream. We hope that by hosting the TEDxXJTLU event, we will be able to further encourage the exchange and interaction between the university and the public, fostering a more international and diverse campus culture, while promoting the innovative creation of our students to a broader audience around the world.

XJTLU COLLECTION TALK, “THE GATE OF WISDOM”
"XJTLU Collection Talk" is a series event to promote the collection of XJTLU Museum. Each episode will introduce one collection of XJTLU Museum. The collection to be introduced in this issue is the Gate of Wisdom located in the south campus. Let's explore its story together.
This replica of the gate tower, named “The Gate of Wisdom,” is a donation made to XJTLU by Suzhou Xieguyingzao Engineering Co, Ltd in conjunction with Suzhou Yijin Shochu Winery Co. Ltd, in the hopes that it could facilitate the education of traditional Chinese culture and the exchanges between Eastern and Western cultures at the campus of XJTLU.
