HIGHLIGHTS
LEARNING MALL HOSTED VOCATIONAL EDUCATION INTERNATIONALISATION TRAINING PROGRAM
Hosted by Learning Mall, the training programme “Vocational Education Internationalisation Improvement” was carried out from 27 to 28, November 2021. The programme is customised for academics from water conservancy related majors of colleges and universities in Henan Province.
Professor Joon Sik Kim, Head of the Department of Urban Planning and Design, XJTLU, delivered keynote speech for this programme, joined by Professor Kai Huang from Southeast University, and Mr Georg Stadler, the Director of Bayern Education Department, Germany, sharing their instructive industrial experiences.
The programme used the HyFlex (Hybrid Flexible) approach that trainees gathered in classrooms from Henan’s Kaifeng city, while lecturers delivered online courses from respective offices across China, and Learning Mall team remotely support throughout the whole process.
Through this program, Learning Mall demonstrated its ability of providing stable educational support, including timely and effective deployments, and comprehensive technological solutions. In the future, Learning Mall will further integrate world-class campus facilities, international faculty and advanced technology, to practice syntegrative education and to spread out its brand impact.
A NEW LEARNING MALL AND REFINED USER SUPPORT
LM has been restructured recently to better integrate resources and further enhance its ability and efficiency to provide support to XJTLU learner and educator community. The new Learning Mall is within the Centre for Knowledge and Information, with the former Centre for Educational Technologies teams and several functions from MITS integrated in.
The new Learning Mall will continuously provide internal and external users respectively with top educational technologies and resources with a focus on online learning and teaching perspective.
Learning Mall users could follow the guides through knowledgebase if they have inquiries.
If users have a question which is beyond the guides, Learning Mall can be reached via email learningmall@xjtlu.edu.cn. Moreover, we highly encourage internal users to access the University Service Request Systemt (intranet, more than 10 professional services departments can be reached here too). All inquiries will be handled within 1-3 working days.
LEARNING MALL ON STAFF LEARNING DAY
On 24 November, Learning Mall has shared its voice at the XJTLU Staff Learning Day event, with the topic “The Trend of Online Education and Lifelong Learning”.
LM’s sharing was presented by Zhiqin Yang, Business and Product Manager, joined by Jing Wang, Deputy Director of LM, covering topics including the development of online education, the concept and major features of lifelong learning, and Learning Mall’s path of facilitating lifelong learning.
This session attracted over 30 audiences across the university. In the future, Learning Mall will continue fostering a lifelong learning ecosystem and maximise the value of hybrid education.

LIBRARY AS A BRIDGE: TAILORED COMMUNICATION CAMPAIGN ARRIVED AT HS BUILDING
In order to strengthen the communication with faculty and students, librarians from XJTLU Library visited the HS building on 23 November to organise the “Library as a Bridge: Meet with Librarians at HS Building” event. On the day, librarians communicated with HSS students and staff to keep them up-to-date on library resources and services.

OPEN ACCESS WEEK 2021 CHALLENGE SUCCESSFULLY HELD!
The Open Access Week 2021 Challenge has been successfully held. From 25 October to 7 November, more than 900 XJTLUers participated in the activity by completing the open access quiz. 20 Participants have been randomly selected to win a lucky prize!
GO READING ON THE MOON AND SIXPENCE HELD SUCCESSFULLY
On 5 November, in Room 153 of the Library, the first session of GO READING in this semester was held by XJTLU Library and Reader Association. The book we read was The Moon and Sixpence by Maugham.
Xiaoxuan Sun, as the host of this meeting, first briefly introduced the novel and its author, and shared her understanding of the book. Group discussions were then carried out through the analysis of some famous paragraphs in the book, on the topics of "interpersonal relationship and social relationship", "how to choose between the moon and sixpence" and "love view and life pursuit", etc.
This event, with a high degree of participation and a lively atmosphere, was of literary appreciation, in-depth thinking and practical importance for all participants.
LIBRARY EVENT: LIVING LIBRARY HELD SUCCESSFULLY
The 30th Living Library was successfully held on 23 November and the theme was Staying True to Yourself. XJTLU Library invited five "living books", namely Xiao CAO, Yuan SUN, Tingting YU, Peiyao LU and Juncheng LIU, to share their personal stories with XJTLUsers. Their topics covered various areas such as global travelling, sports, broadcasting and hosting, volunteering and internship, etc.
Over 100 students took part in the event. In Living Library, they listened to the true stories and life experiences. Inspired by the passion, sincerity and courage in the stories, they were able to take the opportunity to challenge their own stereotypes and prejudices in a protected environment, finding out the diversity in life and work and learning to stay true to themselves.

MITS SEMESTER SCHOOL VISITS AND ONE-DAY ON-SITE SUPPORT ON NOVEMBER
MITS has begun proactively offering to meet with leadership from each school every semester. These visits intend to exchange ideas and converse about the needs and challenges academic teams face. Then, take those challenges and work towards implementing IT solutions that create a better educational environment for staff and students. With academic and administrative units working together, a better, more productive XJTLU can be realized.
This month, MITS has visited Design School, School of Languages, Science School, and Academy of Pharmacy. During the communication meetings, MITS introduced IT resources & services, as well as collected requirements & problems from each school, and received positive feedbacks. MITS will keep following up on these requests and issues, improving the quality of service to academic departments.
MITS MONTHLY INTERNAL TRAINING- STORY OF ONLINE TEACHING
On 18 Nov, MITS department held the 23th monthly internal training.
The theme of the training was Story of Online Teaching.
Yunduo told a lot of interesting stories about online teaching, relaxed and active. And at the end of the training, he summarised and prospected the work of online teaching in recent years.
At present, online teaching has been transferred to other departments, and it is expected that online teaching will become better and better in the future teaching environment.
UNIVERSITY STAFF LEARNING DAY-HOW TO IMPROVE INFORMATION SECURITY AWARENESS
On 24 Nov, HR and CKI jointly held a University Staff Learning Day. Fengshi.Shen from MITS department gave a lecture on How To Improve Information Security Awareness.
The lecture is divided into three parts, telling the importance of network security vividly.
The purpose of this lecture is to raise the awareness of network security among staff, and also hope that more and more people start to pay attention to network security.

XJTLU MUSEUM "KAI ZHAN LE" SERIES EXHIBITION | MOUNTAIN LIGHT INTERACTION BETWEEN DESIGN EXPERIENCE
The XJTLU Museum curates and holds virtual and physical characteristic exhibitions. The museum team presented the “KAI ZHAN LE” series exhibition as an outlet for XJTLU culture through close cooperation with its departments. The exhibition displays the impressive results of teaching and learning and encourages the innovation and growth of faculty and students at XJTLU.
The exhibition showcases student works from school of Film and Television Art, XJTLU. Minor Digital Arts Project: Projection Mapping and Interaction Design.
Mountain Crossing is an interactive projection mapping project which is a set of imaging techniques utilized in Digital Media Art, which projects virtual 2D images onto real-world objects. It integrates animation, interactive games with the 3D model, and creates a stereo experience for the audience. The production was completed by a group of six members, with the help of tutors. Generally, the project showed three features. Firstly, it was based on digital media. Game engine Unity implemented its interactivity, and MadMapper adjusted video output to fit physical models. Digital media established its technical foundation. Secondly, the project was interactive. The audience could join in its narrative by using a controller. Their performance would also affect the ending. Thirdly, the project aimed at providing immersion. To eliminate potential interference, we exhibited the project in an enclosed room. Voice-over and interaction were also considered strategies to improve the immersive experience. Mountain Crossing is finally recorded as a video.
“ONE DAY HOST” EVENT WAS SUCCESSFULLY HELD TWICE THIS MONTH IN X BAR SOUTH CAMPUS
“ONE DAY HOST” event was held twice this month. Yajing Liu, a graduate student majoring in Operation and Supply Chain Management from Grade 20, and Xi Kang, an undergraduate student majoring in Financial Mathematics from grade 20, were invited to share two salon events, Econometrics and Art and Life.
Yajing Liu shared some learning methods for starting econometrics, such as some WeChat official account, Bilibili bloggers and some common databases. Then she shared the software skills that economics and economics and finance majors must learn in their junior year.
Xi Kang invited Ms. Hanxue Shi to XJTLU as a sharing guest and planned an art salon to talk about the art industry and modern art concepts. Ms. Hanxue Shi brought an authentic Yayoi Kusama painting and showed to all the attendees.
TEDXXJTLU ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2021 HAS BEEN POSTPONED

XJTLU MUSEUM HELD THE KAI TAN LE L CULTURE LECTURE –
SUZHOU MUSEUM WEST: DIALOGUE BETWEEN MODERNITY AND TRADITION
XJTLU Museum invites the Deputy Director of Suzhou Museum, Ms. Xiaoting Xie, to share her ideas with the faculty members and students of XJTLU who have come from all over the world.
Ms. Xiaoting Xie introduced Suzhou Museum West first. Sitting under the famed Shizi (Lion) Mountain, the Suzhou Museum West consists of ten cubic structures which have earned it the moniker of “ten boxes.” Designed by the German architecture firm GMP, it marked the birth of another landmark museum in Suzhou. Looking toward east at the Suzhou Museum built by the legendary architect I. M. Pei, the Suzhou Museum West is destined to be a landmark of cultural significance, not only of the city of Suzhou, but of the greater Yangtze River Delta area.
The attendees had a close-range exploration of the charms and collision of modern and traditional cultures with Ms. Xie after the speech.
